Ice Lolly

Properties of Materials

These six lessons are all about investigating the properties of materials and how this affects what we make with them – in this case, an ice lolly.

Introduction Video

  • Aim

By observing the effects of temperature and composite material on the ice lolly and the stick which supports it, students will gain a deeper understanding of how a material’s properties can alter its nature and effectiveness.

  • Success Criteria

Students will be able to evaluate an object or product’s effectiveness in terms of function and usability while making reference to the properties of its materials.

  • Prior Knowledge

Students should already be aware that a material’s properties can be changed by altering temperature. They should also be familiar with using the FormBox in a safe and respectful manner.
